INSTRUCTIONS - MACINTOSH DOWNLOAD

The Pentax RAW codec for Windows Vista and Windows 7 (32 bit) runs behind the scenes, allowing Windows' own image viewers such as Photo Gallery to recognize and display Pentax RAW files (.PEF) from Pentax digital SLR cameras. Please note, this CODEC software will not operate under the 64 bit environments of Windows Vista and Windows 7.

Pentax is pleased to announce an update to the Photo Browser 2 software, which allows it to display lens data for the following recent Pentax lenses:
Please note, you must have the Pentax Photo Browser version 2.0 or later installed on your computer in order to successfully download and install this lens update.
INSTRUCTIONS: Download the update file appropriate to your operating system, and save it on your computer's hard drive (e.g. save it on your desktop). Then, close other software applications, and double click the file to begin the update. Follow the on-screen step-by-step instructions to complete the update. For Macintosh versions, you may need to unstuff the download file with your Stuffit Expander utility before running the update.
Pentax is pleased to announce the release of the Pentax Remote Assistant for the *istD digital camera. The Remote Assistant allows you to use your computer to control functions on your *istD camera, while it is connected via USB cable. While having many standard camera functions and direct download capabilities under your control on the computer, the Pentax Remote Assistant also offers some extended functions as follows:

NOTE: Before you download and install the Pentax Remote Assistant software, please do the following:
Check your camera's current firmware version, to verify that your camera fully supports the Pentax Remote Assistant software. To do this, hold down your camera's MENU button while turning the camera on. Your camera's LCD screen will display the current version of the firmware. Make sure your camera's firmware is version 1.11 or later. If you have an older version of the firmware, please update it to the most recent version (available separately from the Pentax USA download site ).
Make sure your computer supports the basic system requirements for the Remote Assistant software. You can check your system requirements by clicking the Windows or Macintosh instructions & download links below.

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
Operating System: Windows ME*, 2000, XP
CPU: Pentium III or later recommended
Memory: 256MB RAM or more
Monitor & graphics: 1024 x 768 resolution, 24bit full color
Hard Disk Space: 70MB or more
Standard equipped USB port
* For Windows ME, you may need to download the latest version of the ASPI driver software .
1. Click the download link to download the installation file. When you click the download link, you will see the following dialogue box:

Click SAVE.
2. Save the installation file in an easy to find location on your hard drive such as your Desktop.

The name of the installation file is INSTRA01.EXE .
3. Double click the INSTRA01.EXE file to begin the installation.

Click NEXT.
4. You will now see the following screen:

5. You will now see the following screen:

Click NEXT.
6. The installation program will now install the Remote Assistant software.

Don't click anything while the Remote Assistant is being installed.
7.After the installation is complete, you will see the following:

Click FINISH to close the installation program. You are now ready to use your Pentax Remote Assistant software!
To open the Pentax Remote Assistant from the Photo Browser, you can either click on the Remote Assistant button (circled below) or select PENTAX REMOTE Assistant from the TOOL menu (indicated by the arrow below).

Pentax Remote Assistant v1.0 (Macintosh)
This page will give you download instructions for the Pentax Remote Assistant software. These instructions presume you use a Macintosh computer.
SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
Operating System*: MacOS 9.0 or later (w/ CarbonLib 1.5 or later), MacOS-X 10.1.3 or later
CPU: PowerPC G3 or better
Memory: 256MB RAM or more
Monitor & graphics: 1024 x 768 resolution, 24bit full color
Hard Disk Space: 70MB or more
Standard equipped USB port
* Please note that the Pentax Remote Assistant software does not support MacOS 8.6.
Download Instructions:
1. Click the download link to begin downloading the download file. Save the download file in an easy to find location on your hard drive.

The name of the installation file is REMOTE Assistant_e.sit .
2. Double click the REMOTE Assistant_e.sit file to unstuff it.

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you have any problems from this point on with the installation of the Remote Assistant software, you may need to obtain the latest version of Stuffit to unstuff your downloaded file. Older versions of Stuffit may possibly fail to decompress the download file properly.
3. You will now see a folder called REMOTE Assistant_e as shown below.

4. Double click to open the REMOTE Assistant_e folder.
You will now see the following window:

5. Double click PENTAX REMOTE Assistant to install the Remote Assistant software.

The installer will alert you when the installation is complete.

6. Click QUIT to exit from the installer.
7. Now you must install the drivers for the Remote Assistant software. In the REMOTE Assistant_e window, double click the folder that corresponds to your MacOS version.

8. Double click the driver package icon to install the Remote Assistant drivers.
IMPORTANT NOTE: If you do not see the driver installation package as shown, you may need to obtain the latest version of Stuffit and re-unstuff your download file as indicated in step 2 above. Some clues that you have an older version of Stuffit might be a different icon for the driver package, or a file name ending with just .pk instead of .pkg.
Installing the Remote Assistant drivers:

1. Click CONTINUE.
2. Now, select your hard drive.

3. Click CONTINUE.
You should now see the following window:

4. Click INSTALL.
The installation program will alert you that you will need to restart your computer when you finish.

5. Click CONTINUE INSTALLATION.
Now, the installation is complete.

6. Click RESTART to restart your computer.
You are now ready to use your Pentax Remote Assistant software!

To open the Pentax Remote Assistant from the Photo Browser, you can click on the Remote Assistant button (circled above).
