CHANGES:

  • Improved the autofocus response of the Optio X.
  • Corrected a problem which sometimes occured when changing the image folder name from standard to date.

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Please click the download link at the bottom of this page, and save the download file to your Desktop.

  2. Double click the ox_e101w.exe file to decompress it. Click the OK button.

  3. You will now see the following expanded files:

Note that the fwdc128p.bin file is the firmware update. The readme.txt file contains instructions, similar to this page, which you may want to review.

  4. Connect your Optio X camera to the computer according to the instructions in the PC Connection Manual. The camera will become a removable disk drive in the My Computer window. Copy the fwdc128p.bin file to the camera's removable disk drive.

  5. You will now have the fwdc128p.bin firmware file on the removable disk, which is the camera's memory. Note that the fwdc128p.bin file should be on the top or root level of the removable disk drive as shown below. It cannot be located inside of any sub-folders on the removable disk.

  6. Disconnect your camera from the computer. You are now ready to install the firmware update. For these next steps, we strongly recommend the use of an optional AC adapter or a fully charged camera battery.

  7. Press your camera's MENU button, and while holding down the MENU button, turn the camera on. Once your camera turns on and displays text on the LCD screen, you can release the MENU button.

  8. You will see the following text displayed on your LCD screen:

    PROGRAM UPDATE
    YES
    NO
    NEW VERSION IS
    VER 1.01

Use your four-way controller to select YES, and then press your OK button.

  9. You will now see NOW LOADING on the LCD screen for approximately 40 seconds. Be careful to not interrupt power to the camera while the firmware is loading. When the procedure is complete, the LCD screen will say COMPLETE and you can turn the camera off.

  10. Now, you can turn your camera on normally (i.e. without holding down the MENU button). Be sure to format your camera's memory to erase the firmware update file. We also recommend resetting your camera settings. You're finished, congratulations.

MACINTOSH USERS can follow this same process after clicking on the Macintosh download link below.

  • Download and save the Macintosh download file.
  • Double click it, to decompress it with your Stuffit expander program.
  • Connect the camera to the computer.
  • Copy the firmware file (fwdc128p.bin) to your camera's memory, then disconnect the camera from the computer.
  • Proceed with the installation of the firmware as outlined above.

USB DRIVER DOWNLOAD FOR WINDOWS 98 FOR OPTIO X

These instructions will guide you through the process of downloading and installing the USB drivers for your camera on a Windows 98 or Windows 98SE computer. Please note that other supported operating systems such as Windows XP, ME, 2000, and MacOS do not need these drivers, because they will automatically sense the connection of your camera and load their own built-in mass storage drivers.

The download file usbsw24.exe is a self-extracting archive file which contains the drivers, and you can download the usbsw24.exe file by clicking the link at the bottom of this page. You may also wish to print this page to use as a reference while installing your drivers.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

DOWNLOAD AND UNZIP THE USBSW24.EXE FILE

  1. Download the usbsw24.exe file, and save it on your computer's hard drive. The desktop is a good place to save it to, where you can find it again easily.
  2. Once you have the usbsw24.exe file on your computer, you must double click it. Then click the UNZIP button to unzip it to c:usbsw24.
  3. Now, you will have a new folder on your C: drive called usbsw24 which contains the drivers. You are now ready to install them onto your computer.

DRIVER INSTALLATION

  1. Connect your camera to the computer with the USB cable.
NOTE: While you can generally use any USB port on your computer, including a powered hub, if you run into any connection problems then make sure to try a USB port on the back of your computer that is connected directly to your motherboard.

  2. Turn your camera on (you can be in any mode).

  3. Your computer will automatically detect the camera as new hardware, and start a New Hardware Wizard to help you find the needed drivers.

    Click NEXT.

    Click NEXT.

  6. The Wizard will do a quick search and tell you that it has found the needed drivers.

    Click NEXT.

  7. Now, the Wizard will complete the first part of the installation.

    Click FINISH.

    Click NEXT.

  9. Place the selection dot is by the Wizard's recommended option if it is not already there.

    Click NEXT.

  10. The Wizard should still show a checkmark by Specify a location: and c:usbsw24 without the quotes should still be in the location field.

    Click NEXT.

  11. The Wizard will do another quick search and tell you that it has found the needed drivers.

    Click NEXT.

  12. Now, the Wizard will complete the final part of the installation.

    Click FINISH.

  13. You're done! You can now find your camera as a removable disk drive in the My Computer window.
